Boehner: Obama Wants To ‘Annihilate’ The GOP

Source: TPM

IGOR BOBIC 3:00 PM EST, WEDNESDAY JANUARY 23, 2013

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) circled the wagons on Tuesday, one day after President Obama's second inauguration, in an attempt to reassure his fellow Republicans that he would do everything in his power to challenge a "hostile" Obama administration in budget battles yet to come. "So we’re expecting over the next 22 months to be the focus of this Administration as they attempt to annihilate the Republican Party," Boehner said at a private Ripon Society luncheon, a Republican think tank in Washington. His comments were released on Wendesday.

"And let me just tell you, I do believe that is their goal – to just shove us into the dustbin of history," Boehner added. "I’ve been in these spots before. I remember November of ’06, January of ’07 -- we’ve been through these periods before. And you know, our Members get down, our supporters get down.” Alluding to a costly debt ceiling battle that some members have pushed for, Boehner reiterated the need for temperance on behalf of more eager elements of his party, arguing that Republicans must choose wisely which battlefield they meet Obama on in the coming months.

"These next couple of weeks, next couple of months, frankly, the next 20 months, are going to be a very difficult period for us," Boehner added. "Where’s the ground that we fight on? Where’s the ground that we retreat on? Where are the smart fights? Where are the dumb fights that we have to stay away from? All I know is I’m up for the fight," he affirmed.

House Republican leaders successfully kept their conservative members at bay Wednesday and passed legislation to raise the debt limit through May 18, without any cuts to federal spending. It includes a provision, touted by Republicana as "No budget, no pay," that would withhold senators’ pay if they don’t pass a budget by the April 15 statutory deadline.

No. Can't be that. Must be because the BIG BAD OBAMA MAN is keeping them down. Couldn't be the fact that their obstructionism has been wildly unpopular. Couldn't be because their whole platform is extremist and wildly unpopular. Couldn't be that they're just too far out of the mainstream. Couldn't be that they're actually alienating people at an alarming rate. Couldn't be because they're out of touch and out of step.

No. None of that accountability crap. They just have to continue to try to demonize the BIG BAD OBAMA MAN. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Cleavon Little was outstanding in the role of the sheriff! This shot is from what is definitely one of the funniest movie scenes of all time ... even when its not so subtle subtext is the tragedy of race relations in the US of A.

But the self-annihilation of today's - and it is exactly that - is not funny at all. If the RW nihilist nutcases would just go off somewhere or fade away quietly, we would all be the better for it. Instead, they are so deluded and delusional that they actually take themselves seriously and try as hard as they can to wreck the whole country with their downright meanness and constant poutrage.

In most major policy areas, the two parties are in terrifying agreement. It is well past time that Democrats and Republicans stop taking the bait to blindly despise each other and instead open our eyes to actual policy and how we are ALL being sold out by our corporate owners.

We will never have the strength and numbers to stop what is being done to us until we can agree that the real battle is between all of us and the banks and corporations who are now driving policy in both parties.

Our party is now actively complicit with Republicans in advancing the agenda of the one percent:
