New poll shows Fla. voters moving toward Romney

Monday, 01.30.12

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney heads into Tuesday's GOP presidential primary with a 14-point lead over former House Speaker Newt Gingrich among likely Florida Republican voters, a new poll shows.

The results of a Quinnipiac University Polling Institute survey released Monday had Romney favored by 43 percent compared to 29 percent for Gingrich. Texas Congressman Ron Paul of Texas and former Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum each received 11 percent backing in the random telephone survey conducted Friday through Sunday of 539 likely Republican voters in Florida. Just 7 percent said they are still undecided, but 24 percent said they could change their mind by the time they reach their polling site on Tuesday.

The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 4.2 percentage points, Quinnipiac said.

our throats with these polls coming out every 5 minutes.

They are giddy that Romney will win FL. Good for them. I'm tired of hearing about it. We all know who they are rooting for!

Winter Home of the 1%, Romney is ahead 2 to 1 in early voring. Yes, I know. Gingrich would be a better candidate for Obama to face against than Romney, BUT the extreme, religious, right wingers, really hate Romney. Maybe then will stay home if Romney is the Repuke candidate. With that said, I worry about the INDEPENDENTS who would be more likely to support Mittens than Newt.

I'm counting on. Romney is openly detested by the GOP base; and without the base (SoCons, Evangelical Fundamentalists, the Teahadis, FReepers, etc.) Romney cannot win.

It's all about GOTV. Gingrich would tend to motivated and enthuse the Tea Partiers; Romney would keep them away from the polls in droves. Perhaps even enough to take back the House and retain control of the Senate.

Go Mitt!! I only say that because a Romney nomination ensures an open GOP civil war going into the general election, which is a recipe for disaster for the GOP in 2012. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

he is much more likely to go rogue in an association with Palin, and kick off a 3rd party run.

... and other ultra conservatives will vote for a Republican rubber duck over Obama, they hate him, mostly because he's black and someone told them he was a "socialist".

I actually believe Romney will be a more formidable candidate than Gingrich (who is almost certain to shoot off his mouth one time too many IMHO) because they (him and Obama) aren't that different, and the "punish the president for the economy" vote could easily go to Romney.

In any event, I don't expect Gingrich to get much traction. These dipshit Repugs are finding out to their chagin what unlimited money in the form of Citizens United can do. Whoever has the most unlimited money gets their message heard. Sorry Newtie pie, watch what you ask for - you just might get it. It's soooooooo funnnnyyyyyy listening to him bitch and moan about something he's always been for.

The real reason for the Mitt Romney comeback in Florida is his Super PAC money and his super PAC supporters.

Who are these supporters? Where is the money coming from?

These are the real questions that need to be asked and answered.

Mitt has outspent Newt 4 to 1 in Florida with Mitt's super PAC money leading the charge.

Wow that is a big number. Mitt just doesn't inspire confidence. He has not yet made the sale.

If Newt were half way credible and didn't have the history of serial philandering he would be up by 20 points imo.

I won't buy it until the actual votes are counted.

All of them. They tend to have a problem with that in Florida.
