State plans additional testing at Bridgeton Landfill

(KMOV.com) -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is putting out a bid request for more testing at and near the landfill in Bridgeton, following complaints of a persistent and foul odor.
According to the RFP posted on its website, the MDNR is looking for a contractor to conduct air quality testing at 18 primary sites and set up at least one meteorological station to look at data related to wind direction and wind speed. The state is requesting tests for specific chemical compounds, including Dioxins, Hydrogen Cyanide, and Sulfur Dioxide. Read the RFP here.
MDNR has also placed a trailer near the site to conduct its own on-going testing.
Renee Bungart, communications director for the MDNR, said the air testing done earlier this month was done with equipment borrowed from the EPA. A contractor would be able to do longer term testing and test for a wider range of chemicals, she said.
