KC group eyes possible bid for 2016 GOP National Convention

Source: KMBC

The group organizing the effort said it has been working for a while and wants the bid to be a bi-state effort.

"2016 is on a lot of people's minds," said Rick Hughes of the Kansas City Convention and Visitors Association. "So they're taking a look at it."

The Republicans are looking for a city with 15,000 convention hotel rooms. The city said Kansas City has more than 26,000.

A major obstacle is that the host committee would have to raise about $50 million in private donations.

Hope they have it in the heat of summer. It's "lovely in Kansas City in August". I know it's already turned to hell in July.
I've heard rumors of what it was like to have the NEA Convention there several years back now; a nightmare! The hotels were inadequate, and the heat and humidity were enough to make the kernels of corn pop on the stalk.
Good luck!

There's no public transportation.
Downtown is empty, there are no restaurants.
Most of the hotels are at least 25 miles away, near 435 and Metcalf or up by the airport.
There aren't any real luxury hotels.
There aren't any cabs.
Last summer it reached 110 degrees.
The pizza is terrible. What will the trapped delegates eat?

Good luck with that.
