Gov. Bob McDonnell restored the civil rights to more than 1,000 felons in 2012, including I. Lewis Scooter Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, and two former Richmond city leaders.

Libby was convicted in 2007 of perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements and received a 2 ½ year prison sentence, but President George W. Bush commuted his sentence before leaving office.
McDonnell restored his rights on Nov. 1, according to the governors annual report to the General Assembly on pardons, commutations, reprieves and other forms of clemency.

Scooter Libby Gets His Voting Rights Back
Talk about a blast from the George W. Bush-era past! The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that last year Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell restored the voting rights of a number of convicted felons, including one Scooter Libby.
To jog that memory a little, Libby was Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, and in 2007 he was convicted of perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements in the outing of a CIA operative whose husband had spoken critically of the war in Iraq. Though sentenced to over two years in prison, President George W. Bush commuted his sentence.

(51,550 posts)I have never understood how denying felons --or anyone--the right to vote can be constitutional. But the Governor did not restore Scooter's right in that spirit. He is more that happy with gerrymandering and polling place rules that deprive millions equal representation.

Oops, never mind, that's the President's special US Citizen drone program. Don't want to non-concur, my name might be put on his list.
