Google cutting 1,200 more Motorola jobs

Source: AP-Excite

NEW YORK (AP) - Google is cutting an additional 1,200 jobs in its Motorola division as the unprofitable cellphone maker struggles to compete.

Last summer, Google Inc. announced 4,000 Motorola job cuts. The latest reductions are in addition to those and will be in countries including the U.S., China and India.

"These cuts are a continuation of the reductions we announced last summer," Google spokeswoman Niki Fenwick said in an email.

When Mountain View, Calif.-based Google bought Motorola last year for $12.4 billion, it had about 20,000 employees.

messed up CEO comes in and sends 50% of our jobs overseas—copying the trend.

Isn't "capitalism" all about competition? I don't understand why huge corporations can keep buying company after company to control a segment, and then proceed to layoff the folks that built the small company.

treasure your employees as your most valuable asset, pay them a living wage so they can afford your product and tell their family and friends to buy that product too.

Eventually, these companies will run out of markets to sell to other than home, but it will be too late to salvage our economy.

They should all be forced to work for minimum wage. Fuck the investors.
