Upstate New York Shootings: 4 Killed In Herkimer County

Four people were shot and killed at two upstate New York businesses Wednesday morning, according to the New York State Police.

Two people were killed at Gaffey’s Car Wash in Herkimer, N.Y.

Shots were also fired at John’s Barber Shop in Mohawk, N.Y., where two people were killed and four people were shot at, State Police told WKTV.

Around the same time, reports of an explosion or a fire were received by authorities in Mohawk. WKTV said it was unable to confirm the reports, which included people wounded.

My father-in-law's barber is among the dead. The explosion was a house being blown up, from what I've heard.

2. Update--shooter apparently has a rifle or shotgun and is on main street in Herkimer

Not 100% sure on who's dead and who's wounded. Barber was definitely shot, not sure if dead or in critical condition.

Herkimer (WSYR-TV) – Police have released information on a suspect after two separate shootings on Wednesday morning. Initial reports indicated that four people were killed.

Police say they are looking for 64-year-old Kurt Myers. Police say residents should not approach Myers and that they should remain indoors.

Police believe he is armed and dangerous.

They have described Myers as a 5-foot-11 man with white hair and a white beard.

NewsChannel 9 reporter Leigh Isaacson reports that police and SWAT teams converged on a jewelry store on North Main Street in the village of Herkimer.

10. 4 killed at NY shops; police search for suspect

HERKIMER, N.Y. (AP) — Multiple gunshots have rung out, including some fired by state police, in an upstate New York village where police are searching for a suspect in the fatal shootings of four people.

Joseph Malone, the police chief for Herkimer and Mohawk, says authorities are looking for 64-year-old Kurt Meyers, of Mohawk. He says Meyers opened fire at a car wash and barbershop Wednesday morning, killing four people and wounding at least two others.

Officials say guns and ammunition were found inside Meyers' apartment after emergency crews were sent to a fire there Wednesday morning.

Herkimer County Community College and local schools are on lockdown.

in Herkimer; lived there for a while afterwards, too. I have a number of friends still living there.

Ugly. This type of thing shouldn't happen, anywhere.
