3 women were paid to falsely claim they had sex with Menendez, Dominican police say
Source: Associated Press
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic Three women were paid to falsely claim in videotaped interviews that they had sex for money with U.S. Senator Robert Menendez in the Dominican Republic, a spokesman for the police said today.
The women, whose claims generated media attention in the United States, were hired by a Dominican attorney to make the videotaped statements, spokesman Maximo Baez told reporters. Two of the women received about $425 and the other was paid about $300, he said.
Authorities are seeking to interrogate the attorney, Melanio Figueroa, about the payments and have not determined his motive or whether he was in turn paid by someone else to set up the interviews, Baez said.
The women have not been detained

(7,044 posts)I would bet a sack of doughnuts that the Repubbies are ultimately culpable...if'n we ever get to the bottom of this set up.
This isn't as egregious as the Republican's infamous anti-American October Surprise, or their god-awful, globally-evil Intentional LIES about the WMD in Iraq. But all the same, this stunt is right out of the mold of their perverted 'values' cesspool all the same. It fits an ugly ugly ugly pattern that they have established over the last decades.

(70,504 posts).... individual paid him to make the video tape. I would bet Koch Brothers, Rove,
Fox News, or tea party front group was involved.
I hope the Dept. of Justice gets involved ..... but no doubt Lindsey Graham will

(37,160 posts)Jersey's Teabaggers have a bug up their ass about him, and tried to get him recalled in 2010. The Breitbart rat's nest got involved, playing up the "corrupt Democrat machine politician" angle. The petition was denied, and the case went up to the NJ Supreme Court (the attorney on the Teabaggers' side was Andrew Schlafly, yes, son of Phyllis, who also is the founder of Conservapedia ). It was denied there too.
They want his head for the usual jumble of teabaggy reasons, and they're using the usual ratfucker playbook.

He owns Saint Louis Brewery.

They can lie us into costly (human and monetary) wars, they can drone kill in non-warring countries, they can bail out banksters and watch the working class suffer, but HEAVENS FORBID THEY ENJOY SOME SEX....that's just not allowed.
How f'd up we are, really.

That would make Rush Limbaugh a serial child rapist.

2012 Trafficking in Persons Report - Dominican Republic
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (Tier 2)
The Dominican Republic is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labor. Reports indicate that Dominican women and children are subjected to sex trafficking throughout the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean, Europe, South America, the Middle East, and the United States. Additionally, child sex tourism is a problem, particularly in coastal resort areas of the Dominican Republic, with child sex tourists arriving year-round from the United States and European countries. Dominican officials and NGOs have documented cases of children being forced into domestic service, street vending, begging, agricultural work, and construction. Reportedly, forced labor of adults exists in construction, some sectors of agricultural production, and service sectors. Street children and the large population of undocumented or stateless people of Haitian descent are groups particularly vulnerable to trafficking, though authorities identified Dominican victims in the Dominican Republic as well.
