AP sources: Taliban leader sent letter to Obama
http://www.9news.com/news/article/246854/188/AP-sources-Taliban-leader-sent-letter-to-ObamaWASHINGTON (AP) - Current and former U.S. officials tell The Associated Press that reclusive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar wrote to President Barack Obama last year indicating an interest in talks key to ending the war in Afghanistan.
The previously undisclosed communication was considered authentic by people who saw it, but skeptical administration officials say they cannot determine if it actually came from Omar.

To the right, I'm sure more proof that 'Hussein the Muslim is trying to impose Shariah law on America'.
Anyway, I thought this was interesting.

(34,136 posts)That is just as restrictive - for women, at least.
It looks more and more like The Handmaid's Tale every day in this country.

(106,886 posts)what they will, imo. I wish them well. Yet, it's time we come home.
The "primary objective" of our military action has been accomplished. I welcome talks with any and all involved parties as we disengage from the day-to-day situations.
And I'd support on-going basic humanitarian aid to the country. I'd rather we flood the region with food than with arms.

(11,489 posts)Then we withdrew, and the Communists took over.
Now, we have trade deals with them and everything seems to be just hunky-dory.
Why did we waste 50000 Americans and probably 1,000,000 Vietnamese?

(11,489 posts)I remember getting my Weekly Reader in 2nd grade and reading about our brave fight against the Commie invaders. I really thought we were doing the right thing 'saving South Vietnam from the commies.' Then came news about My Lai, and Daniel Ellsberg. Until then, I really thought I could trust the US government. It was a real wake-up call.
I agree about the men who fought. They were no different from the guys in Iraq and Afghanistan, except I guess that most were draftees back then. Good men, mostly, just like today. 50000 dead and how many wounded or psychologically scarred.
And now we trade with the 'enemy' who 'had' to be stopped.
