Child porn linked to St. Ann Parish in Independence
Source: KSHB
A spokeswoman with the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City St. Joseph said an investigation began when authorities discovered two child pornography downloads from peer-to-peer websites on Feb. 5 with an IP address from the churchs rectory.
Carrie Cooper, the Director of the Office of Child Protection with the Diocese, said all the computers and electronic storage devices have been taken from the building.
Independence police referred questions about the investigation to the Jackson County prosecutor's office, which declined comment Tuesday.
The parish office's Wi-Fi address wasn't password-protected, meaning people nearby could have used the parish's connection to download the material.

(53,410 posts)It's practically like leaving your fingerprints all over a crime scene. They will find out whoever is downloading child porn.

(3,220 posts)then the police are in luck. If it was a wifi-troll, will be much more difficult.

Seems redundant, but there's more information on how this scenario can be prevented in the comment section. As usual, it descended into 2A territory:

That last link has a section on child pornography. Many of the regulations began in the Clinton years and people applauded it because other countries were doing a lot of bootlegging of all kinds of entertainment media. The producers who financed these films had figured into their budget after market sales but it was being destroyed.
A case in WA state got a man in serious trouble. Someone on his street had downloaded child pornography off his router. I can't find the story, seems most of our newspapers are deleting their stories online as fast as they write them.
I don't do wifi for this reason, I can't keep up with all the work to maintain a safe router. I dread the day they finally force us all to go wireless.
