Ron Kronenberger Update: Ohio landlord accused of another whipping

CBS/AP) WAYNESVILLE, Ohio - Ronald Kronenberger, an Ohio landlord accused of whipping an adult tenant with a belt on his bare buttocks for falling behind on his rent, has been accused of whipping another man with a belt and a paddle.

In a lawsuit filed in southwest Ohio's Warren County on Tuesday, Mark Neace accuses Kronenberger of spanking him on four occasions while Neace worked as a volunteer in Kronenberger's grocery store in Waynesville.

The lawsuit, which describes Neace as mentally disabled, says the whippings caused him "severe emotional distress."

Kronenberger's attorney, Lawrence Greger, declined to comment.

Assault still a crime, especially on the most vulnerable of our citizens, the mentally disabled who don't have the capacity to legally consent to such an action, even if the defendant claims it was consensual (ie, a mutual fetish).

Civil lawsuits by individual citizens shouldn't be the entire extent of actions taken against him. But if it is, I hope these plaintiffs make him hurt financially.

6. It is up to someone to protect everyone against this type of behavior. Hope the DA can stop it.

Wish this landlord a jail sentence. He is a repeat offender of physical assault.
He should not be allowed to walk around scott free.
Just a monetary penalty is not strong enough no matter how large the amount.

Physically assaulting a disabled person for a financial situation is brutal, immoral, and disgusting. It doesn't address his financial loss, it just gives him perverse pleasure.

This guy is on a power trip that finally caught up with him. I hope the DA gets involved and looks through this man's past with a fine tooth comb...domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assualt...something like that will also probably be discovered.

And what do you want to bet that Ronald Kronenberger was probably considered a "pillar of the community".

Ohio man accused of whipping mentally disabled man

This guy cried in my office," attorney Eric Deters said. "People with a disability like this have an innocence about them and that innocence being shattered is really sad."

Deters said Neace, who is 56 and lives with his mother, wanted to volunteer at the grocery store because he's social and everyone in town knows him.

No police reports have been filed stemming from the incidents, but Deters said he forwarded information about the case to the county prosecutor's office to consider whether criminal charges are appropriate.

In January, the 53-year-old Kronenberger was charged with hitting a former 29-year-old tenant on the buttocks with a belt in a dispute over more than $2,000 in overdue rent.

A magistrate said he would dismiss an assault charge against Kronenberger in six months if he stayed away from the tenant and out of trouble, but that he would face conviction if he violates the order.

Kronenberger is a former chamber of commerce president and was named Waynesville's Citizen of the Year in 2006.
