McCrory eliminates Latino outreach office
Source: Charlotte Observer
The closing of the Office of Hispanic/Latino affairs was sudden and caught many by surprise. The move appears to have exacerbated the already tense relationship between Republican Gov. Pat McCrory and the Latino community, including criticism over a drivers license plan for young immigrants.
Advocates say it sends a message that McCrory and Raleigh conservatives are less concerned with the needs of the Latino community. Paradoxically, it comes at a time when issues of deep concern, such as immigration, are at the political forefront.

Criticizing Republicans for insensitivity to minorities is like shooting fish in a barrel these days...

NC used to be a lovely place to live. It may never recover from this scorched-earth policy . . .

(8,515 posts)So screw this red state!!! Democrats need to use this action as a national warning to all Hispanics that the
Republican agenda is to simply make life miserable them!!!
In the meantime there should be a huge outreach program from the non Latino good guys population
to stand arm and arm with their Hispanic friends. But that will never happen, so S.C. deserves what
it gets...

(16,100 posts)But those good people have been corraled like cattle into districts that will result in a few seats, but the Republican districts out number them.
It's NC not SC.

(16,100 posts)Seriously? I don't think so, you see the latino community doesn't really have the political clout to do much except of anything. The gerrymandering that took place after the 2010 census made sure that all minorities would be on the losing end...that was the plan and it seems to be working!
Now throw in the voter ID laws and you've just topped the cake.
NC isn't screwed, the Republicans know that there is no where else for these people to go...and the Republicans love it!!!

(20,317 posts)McCrory, and his conservative constituents not only love it, they demand it. But these tactics make the party anathema at the national level.
Demographic changes are quickly turning the GOP into a regional party. I expect the blanket obstructionist tactics we've over the last few years is a template for their foreseeable future.
