GM to appoint UAW's Bob King to Opel board
BY BRYCE G. HOFFMAN THE DETROIT NEWS

General Motors Co. will name United Auto Workers President Bob King to the supervisory board of its German subsidiary, Adam Opel AG, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The supervisory, which is roughly equivalent to the company's board of directors, has 20 seats that are divided equally between management and labor under the German principle of co-determination.

With the European automobile market in turmoil, General Motors has been taking a hard look at Opel and is believed to be readying a major restructuring of the brand and the rest of its operations in the region.

Neither GM nor the UAW were immediately available for comment.

respect. Should be interesting to hear what he has to say about it.

This is kind of exciting.

Will he be required to move to Germany?

My first car was a Opel 1900 that was passed from my father to my sister then to me. It was a fantastic car. It took all of the abuse two teenagers could throw at it and it would still go like hell. Opel builds fantastic affordable cars, or did then anyway. Buick screwed them out of the American market. I'd love to see them come back.

And more to the subject, I'd love to see the German system of management/labor cooperation get a toehold here in the states.
