Pope Francis tweets in solidarity with unemployed

Source: Gazzetta del Sud

@Pontifex says joblessness often due to greed of others

Vatican City, May 2 - Pope Francis on Thursday posted a message on Twitter in solidarity with the world's unemployed. "My thoughts turn to all who are unemployed, often as a result of a self-centred mindset bent on profit at any cost," said the pope. On Labor Day Wednesday, Francis called society "unjust" for not providing work opportunities to all who are willing and able, "depriving them of their dignity".

I don't know what to think. Part of me is VERY impressed that he may be the 'real deal', but the other part has read some of the stuff he's turned a blind eye to and wonders when the other shoe is gonna drop. And if he IS the real deal, how did he get thru the gauntlets all these years?

I also am not sure what to think, but it didn't start with this Pope. I tend to think it's a good thing.

There are lots of shades of gray. His views on equality are condemnable. His views on the poor and the grandeur of some in the church is commendable.

some Democrat should do an experiment: Tweet exactly the same thing, wait for the over-the-top vitriol from all corners of the right wing, and then reveal that it was the Pope that said it.

How about letting women serve as priests---or at least not throwing the Nuns on the Bus under the bus?

Those percentages are in place to keep workers in fear of being jobless, a function of the very system being described here, greedy capitalism.

Whenever I've seen those quotes on mainstream media, my first thoughts were angry, because they were saying it was 'desireable' to maintain that weren't suffering from it. Really? For who?

I remember Greenspan and others saying they wanted to maintain the level but NO ONE called him out on it.

What of the people who are doing without? And this from the same Randians who want to cut the unemployment benefits of those they say it's good to leave in that condition?

The Pope used the proper words here, that many are afraid to speak to the powerful. When he says:

On Labor Day Wednesday, Francis called society "unjust" for not providing work opportunities to all who are willing and able, "depriving them of their dignity".

That needs to be said over and over until these people out themselves as the enemies of mankind that they are.

of votes he's conned with his 'pro-life' routine. As far as the serial marriage Newt, I can't imagine that the Church loves what he did, either. Sanctorum went off the deep end with WND and I doubt that's the definition of 'good Catholic values' either.

Disclaimer being that I only know a number of Catholics and ex-Catholics, and had one in my family, my stepmother. She called in a priest when my dad died, but he told her that she wasn't even married in the eyes of the Church, as she was divorced and married him. I don't think the fact that he was not Catholic figured into it, but she didn't appreciate getting dressed down one little bit.

I know the Nuns on the Bus went after Ryan, I wish that those who support him would consider the heart of the matter of the poor as this Pope has.

anyway. That he's emphasizing this particular doctrine at present may or may not be important. The RC church is still the pits on many social issues important to many, many people.

Why doesn't he sell off some of his gold to help the world's poor? A tweet means exactly nothing.
