9/11 museum at Ground Zero will charge for admission

Source: New York Daily News

The museum in the crucible of America’s pain will be charging admission.

People making the pilgrimage to Ground Zero will have to pony up anywhere from $20 to $25 to descend into the new subterranean museum when it finally opens next year.

And unlike some other museums in the city, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at Ground Zero will charge a mandatory fee — not just a suggested donation — for the privilege.

How much money has every man, woman, and child shelled out in the last 12 years?

The least we could get in return is "free" admission to a site sacred to all Americans.

My parents wouldn't have been caught dead buying the News when I was a kid, even though it had the only decent Sunday comics. The Post in those days was straight-line liberal -- Herblock cartoons, Pogo, lots of editorials.

Things have changed. The Post is fishwrap now, and the News is at least halfway respectable.

their Near-real-time URL Tracking System (NUTS) alerted them that you had reached this website in error. Their request was that I provide you the following URL where you will be welcomed back with your people:

They mentioned that their Bi-monthly Accuse-a-Thon Target Yahoos forum (BATTY) was coming up next Friday and you probably wouldn't want to miss out on the food & medication. And Vice President Biden sends his best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Right?

Nanking Memorial Hall and the outrage was so fierce, the riot squad needed to be called out, but did nothing but put down their clubs and join the outrage. The Government rescinded and now the Memorial Hall is free of charge.

As for these ghouls. . .just unbelievable.

I'm from Chicago and have had the opportunity to visit the memorial 2x's over the past 2 years.

Just sat and reflected and walked around.

I'm sure it takes a lot to maintain things because of the heavy crowds.

If i visit the museum, it may be a 1 time thing. Just to experience the place.

I know that people think $25 is a lot, but it will take funds to maintain the joint.

I saw them live, from the street right in front of the North Tower. I still get very upset if I see a high rise building on fire. I immediately change the channel. I'm always afraid that someone will jump out the window.

My first reaction to this was that there was no way it could actually cost $25 per person to maintain this museum, so it looked like callous profiteering. However, looking up info on the Smithsonian, we taxpayers pay $800 million a year for that system of 17 museums, which sees 30 million visitors per year. That works out to $26.66 each.

On the other hand, the Smithsonian includes the National Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum, which are the two most awesome museums in the world, and I would easily pay $25 to visit those again. I have to think that by comparison, despite its historical and emotional significance, the 9/11 museum is not something I'd pay $25 to see.

<EDIT>
Re-reading this, I didn't really mean to imply that I favor privatization of museums that preserve our national heritage. I am completely in favor of adding the 9/11 museum to the Smithsonian so that it would be open to all citizens.
