New Bangladesh panel to raise garment workers' wages

Source: BBC

Bangladesh has set up a panel to raise the minimum wage for more than three million garment workers, the minister for textiles has said.

The government is under pressure to improve conditions after last month's collapse of a Dhaka garment factory which left more than 1,000 people dead.
...
Workers are also demanding the death penalty for Mohammad Sohel Rana, the owner of the collapsed Rana Plaza complex.

A number of people have been arrested and charged with causing deaths by negligence, including Mr Rana, his father and several engineers.

this is what our unionists fought for decades ago and the company owners sent these jobs overseas so that they can do anything they want in a far off land . why should people doing their jobs have to die in order to make someone rich ?

came out of this tragedy. The sooner Bangladesh ups their wages, the sooner others will; and eventually, the global corporatists will have no place on earth to exploit people.

pay a dictator some up front money or a cut of the action.

Wages are easier to white wash the bad (well earned ) reputation then dealing with pesky things like working conditions(mandatory hours, locked doors, building code violations, pay offs to buyers overseas etc.

They used to use the vietnam immigrants for pay by the piece work. Haiti, South America, PR, he lived there for a couple years. Then came Romneys era of slave labor cheaper workers. China, the middle east for the sweatshops. Mexico border pays workers couple dollars a day.

GF was tired of garment industry, moved to management computer industry. Moved on to TI Tx. and his friends splitoff to form HP.

Always countries that allow their people to be exploited cheap.
