O.J. Simpson says bad legal advice put him in prison

Source: CNN

Disgraced football legend O.J. Simpson is scheduled to return to a Las Vegas courtroom Monday in a bid to get his robbery, assault and kidnapping convictions thrown out.

The one-time Heisman Trophy winner and Buffalo Bills halfback is more than four years into a 33-year prison term and is asking for a new trial. In court papers, he's arguing that bad legal advice led to his arrest and conviction in a 2007 confrontation with sports memorabilia dealers.

Simpson not only accuses his old lawyer, Yale Galanter, of having a conflict of interest and of failing to mount an effective defense in his trial. He also says Galanter told him before that confrontation that he was within his rights to take back property he believed had been stolen from him, "so long as there would be no trespass and no physical force used against the persons with the property."

Simpson, 65, was convicted of leading a group of associates into a room at the Palace Station hotel and casino and using threats, guns and force to take back the items from the two dealers.

These men in the room till you got your shit IS illegal, and I'm not an attorney. Just run that through your pea brain OJ. Any idiot should know what you did was and still is a crime. And the ONLY one responsible for you being in jail is YOU!

Next up, he'll claim brain trauma from playing football made him do ALL these things.

OJ was charged because he was OJ
he was YOU KNOW found innocent of all charges by a jury of his peers for the first crime, double jeopardy is NOT allowed.

IF one person has an injustice, every person in the country does.

Oliver North committed a worse crime than OJ in Nevada. Yet for some reason people want to keep OJ jailed?
Why? Remember, one can NOT in America retry someone for the original charge OJ was found INNOCENT of.
That is the law.

personally, I believe OJ was indeed given very bad advice to set him up, and it was between many and it was to retry him for a crime he was found innocent of by a jury of his peers under USA law.

Justice UNserved. IMHO

I thought that was what the ACLU was all about? Didn't realize it was selective though.

He could have been sentenced to life, and was actually sentenced to serve 9 to 33 years. There were no obvious legal errors in the trial, and as far as I can see, nothing for the ACLU to complain about.

OJ is a dangerous sociopath and belongs in prison.

I'm so glad this fucker is in jail. He's the typical spoiled sports hero: thinks he can do no wrong because that's what he was told from the time he could hold a ball. Fuck you, OJ.
