Army suspends general due to allegations of misconduct

Source: CNN

(CNN) -- The Army has suspended the top general at Fort Jackson in South Carolina due to allegations of adultery and assault, an Army spokesman says.

Brig. Gen. Bryan Roberts was relieved of his duties Tuesday as commanding general of the Army training center and Fort Jackson while the allegations are being investigated, said spokesman Harvey Perritt of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.

Roberts was suspended by Gen. Robert Cone, head of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.

Fort Jackson, where Roberts was the senior commander, is where most new Army recruits go through basic training, which includes training about sexual assault prevention.

Obama: 'No tolerance' for military sexual assault

By Michael O'Brien, Political Reporter, NBC News 5-7-2013

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that he has “no tolerance” for sexual assault in the military, comments made in the wake of a new Pentagon report showing the instances of such crimes have spiked since 2010.

The president said he had spoken today with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to urge him to “exponentially step up” efforts to identify suspects in assaults, and aggressively prosecute those cases.

“The bottom line is: I have no tolerance for this,” Obama said at a press conference following his meeting with South Korean President Park Geun-hye
.

‘I expect consequences,” Obama added. “So I don’t just want more speeches or awareness programs or training, but ultimately folks look the other way. If we find out somebody’s engaging in this, they’ve got to be held accountable – prosecuted, stripped of their positions, court martialed, fired, dishonorably discharged. Period.

but rather plain old assault - a physical confrontation or fight, and with adultery.

slap on the wrist. If the allegations are true, he's through. Even if they are unfounded allegations, he will probably be through as an Army officer. Most likely BG Roberts will resign for the good of the service. His replacement is already on the ground meeting the staff and commanders.
