(Reuters) - Russia said on Friday the Syrian government had agreed in principle to attend an international peace conference proposed by Russia and the United States, and criticised what it called attempts to undermine peace efforts.
"Damascus has expressed its readiness in principle to participate in the international conference in order for Syrians themselves to find a political path to a solution," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.
Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said after talks in Moscow on Wednesday the government would soon decide whether to take part in the conference aimed at bringing government and opposition representatives together for talks.

(2,730 posts)what your complaint is? Did I miss something? I don't remember Syria making any promises to the opposition that were broken. Did they promise they would surrender? I also thought Kim's grand father was a army officer in the Red Army during World War II and led their forces against the Japanese before Japan surrender in Korea? Why wouldn't Russia support them? The only reason they are not allies now is because the USSR disintegrated. So what are you talking about? You have to win a War before you can dictate terms. I've never seen a War that didn't go that way?
