Facebook Page Defends Accuser of (NYC) Police Commissioner’s Son

Though Manhattan prosecutors closed a rape investigation against a son of Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly of the New York Police Department without filing charges, supporters of his accuser are trying to restore her credibility and fight back against some of what has been written about her.

The supporters started a Facebook page, Shame on the NY Post, on Thursday, denouncing the newspaper for revealing the woman’s identity and publishing her picture on the front page under the headline “Shady Lady.”

“This is victim blaming and we stand opposed,” the Facebook page reads.

“We don’t claim to know what happened in this case or any specific case, but character assassination of this young woman is not fair,” it continues. “In addition, it feeds a cultural stereotype that makes it (even) harder for people to report rape and sexual assault.”

By late Friday afternoon, over 380 people had “liked” the page.

She only accused him of rape because her boyfriend caught her cheating.

Falsely accusing a man of rape can ruin his life. Maria Di Toro should be prosecuted.

The clothes a rape victim was wearing are irrelevant.

But I think that sexy texting *after* the alleged "rape" *is* relevant. Perhaps you disagree.

8. But the source is not credible...

...this "newspaper" The Post--is about as reliable as a supermarket tabloid newspaper.

I don't think anyone, in their right mind, would assume that this story is fact. They often
write inaccurate, lie-based tripe.

And a paper like this--that has no problem pedaling lies--would employ people who would
have no problem planting a negative story like this--to further discredit the victim.

This is the NYPD commissioner's son who was accused of rape. The commissioner is
an influential person, and all it would take is one phone call to The Post, to get such
a story printed. We can't trust this paper.

Notice that there are no reputable media sources with this same story?

How often is the Weekly World News or the National Enquirer sued for libel? Hardly
ever.

It happens, but it is rare.

The absence of a libel suit surely is not an indication that the article is truthful. According to your logic, most
of what we read in the National Enquirer is truth.
