WASHINGTON - The U.S. Strategic Command's new headquarters facility would get another $161 million in funding under the budget request released Monday by President Barack Obama.

The cost of the building is expected to total $564 million, plus about the same amount in outfitting it with all of the high-tech equipment that comes with overseeing the nation's nuclear arsenal.

The president's latest request comes in addition to the $120 million that was included for the project in the current fiscal year to start construction.

StratCom, located at Offutt Air Force Base just south of Omaha, has an aging headquarters that has seen little renovation since its construction in 1957 and has experienced flooding, fires and problems with its electrical and cooling systems.
