Roche issues counterfeit drug warning in US

US authorities have discovered counterfeits of the cancer-fighting drug Avastin which are not safe to use, pharmaceutical company Roche warned on Wednesday.

"The investigation is ongoing and we are assisting the authorities" in the United States, a spokeswoman for the Swiss firm said.

Genentech, Roche's US subsidiary, warned in a statement, "The counterfeit product is not safe or effective and should not be used.

"Chemical analyses of the counterfeit vials tested to date have confirmed the product does not contain the active ingredients for Avastin."

Roche fails to state where the counterfeit vials of Avastin are from. I am very disturbed by this finding. Can you imagine how patients receiving Avastin must be feeling right now?

Avastin is also used to treat the wet form of wet macular degeneration given by injection to the eye.

Whatever the reality of this situation may be, it is not good.

In China the situation is much worse.

This is why we have regulations and the FDA -- which the GOP congress would desperately like to scuttle, the idiots!

Sadly, even with the cost of postage being $25.00 an order, the price still beats what it is here.

The bad part about it is that my credit card number was stolen and I still receive about 50 spam emails a day to the email address that I used for the purchase selling Viagra, etc.

After this experience, I'll either cut way back on the drug I was getting from India or find something else to take (allergy medication btw ...).

I'm not certain if the drugs from India are indeed safe. Them seem to be the same but ...
