In video, Democrat Staci Appel says she'd 'get things done' in Congress (challenging Tom Latham)

Source: Des Moines Register

In an announcement video, Democrat Staci Appel says she’d put “getting things done ahead of partisanship and politics” if she’s elected to Congress.

That means working across party lines to pass a farm bill, “instead of bickering about it,” Appel says. And that means a balanced budget and lower debt while protecting Social Security and Medicare. And it means better schools and more affordable health care, she says.

She ruled out a bid for Congress earlier this year, but is now back on the campaign trail.

Appel, a former state senator from Ackworth, filed papers last week with the Federal Election Commission to run for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, which stretches from Des Moines to Council Bluffs and across southwest Iowa. It’s currently represented by Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Latham.

Latham is a member of the Class of 1994, in which Republicans swept Congress. He represents the 3rd district, which covers the SW region of the state including the cities of Des Moines and Council Bluffs (CB is across the Missouri River and Iowa/Nebraska border from Omaha - hi Steve!)

Class of 1994 members still in Congress:
Sen. Jon Kyl (AZ)
Sen. Saxby Chambliss (GA) (elected to the House in '94 and then the Senate in 2002 - defeating MAX CLELAND in a gutter campaign!)
Sen. Roger Wicker (MS) (served in the House until appointed in 2007 to replace resigned Sen. Trent Lott)
Sen. Richard Burr (NC) (after a stint in the House, elected to the Senate in 2004 in John Edwards's former seat)
Sen. Jim Inhofe (OK)
Sen. Tom Coburn (OK) (elected to the Senate in 2004 after nearly a decade in the house)
Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC) (elected to the Senate in 2002 after 4 terms in the house)
Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ)
Rep. Brian Bilbray (CA)
Rep. Walter Jones (NC)
Rep. Frank LoBiondo (NJ)
Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ)*
Rep. Steve Chabot (OH) (returned to his seat in the 2010 Republican sweep after losing it in 2008)
Rep. Mark Sanford (SC)* (re-elected to his seat this year, defeating Stephen Colbert's sister Elizabeth, despite the "appalachian trail" incident while he was governor of SC)
Rep. Steve Stockman (TX) (returned to the House in 2012 after one term in 1994...infamous for inviting Ted Nugent to the 2013 SOTU)
Rep. Mac Thornberry (TX)
Rep. Doc Hastings (WA)

Rep. Sam Brownback later became Senator and is currently Governor of Kansas.
Rep. Ray LaHood (IL)* later became the Secretary of Transportation during President Obama's first term.

*These freshmen did not defeat an incumbent Democrat in the (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_1994) 1994 house election.

Democrats: GOTV 2014 and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Gingrich Revolution with mass Republican sobbing the night of 11/4/14! I thought part of the Contract with America was "TERM LIMITS" - yet all these 1994 freshmen are still in Congress?

That it was/is the Contract ON America. Newt and the Hammer, who belong in the slammer. Yep, I do believe my impressions have been valid. Now then, about that hit list above, wait...I gotta puke.
