SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois House, with no debate, voted 77-31 today to override Gov. Pat Quinn’s changes to a compromise plan to regulate the concealed carrying of firearms in the state.

The state Senate must also vote to override Quinn’s rewrite of the bill for the measure to become law. That vote is expected later today.

The measure got 89 votes in its original House roll call at the end of May. It needed 71 House votes to override Quinn’s amendatory veto.

Illinois is the only state that bans so-called concealed carry — but faces a court-mandated deadline of today to enact regulations after a federal appellate court ruled the state's prohibition unconstitutional.

Good grief, way to reserve it for the 1%.

First aid cert: 6h training.
Hunter Safety Education? 11 hours.

16 hours for CPL? That's insane. Two full business days and a hundred and fifty bucks.

Here in Washington State, it's 30$, 34$ for the FBI fingerprint check, and you're good to go. Training is optional.

...1% is bit of an exaggeration. I'm not remotely close to the 1% and I could afford $150.

I would probably not have that license if it was under those requirements. I couldn't justify the cost. I bet you that 150 bucks doesn't include the cost of the training course either.

That would be the most expensive license, by far, I have ever had any opportunity/need to acquire. It's pretty shocking to me.

Either it's a right, and this is clearly akin to a poll tax, or it isn't, and this treats it more like a privilege.

I'm betting this ends up back in court.

It looks like the law doesn't give reciprocity except to carry in your car if you have another states permit.

Ohh well, that is better than I had before when I traveled to see family in Rockford.

The 16 hours is excessive- I have been a certified instructor here in NC for 10 years, I specialize in teaching self defense and CCW to women, and the 8 hours NC requires is really about twice the time needed to get the required course material across. I end up going a lot more in depth, but that is wasted time for some who already know how to handle a gun. But at least it could be knocked out in a weekend.

Glad to see I am not the only Democrat out there who is pro CCW. I wondered if that would be welcomed here.
