(Las Vegas area) Mount Charleston fire grows to more than 30 square miles
Source: Las Vegas Sun
Plumes of smoke returned Tuesday afternoon over Mount Charleston, a sign the wildfire has returned to a full blaze after smoldering overnight.
Residents in the Las Vegas Valley woke Tuesday morning to find a yellowish-gray haze settled across the valley floor. Fire spokesman James Stone said the haze was the result of the cooler, humid night weather that dampened the flames into a smolder overnight.
Yet, the fire still burned.
It expanded its path to nearly 20,000 acres more than 30 square miles. Put another way, the 30 square miles the fire has consumed is the equivalent of an area that would engulf all of downtown Las Vegas and the majority of the Las Vegas Strip.
