Platform Off Louisiana's Coast Leaking Oil Into the Gulf

Source: WPMI

GULF OF MEXICO (WPMI) U.S. Coast Guard officials say a well is leaking oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

Officials responded Tuesday to the Ship Shoal Block 225 Platform B, and natural gas and crude oil platform about 74 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

The Coast Guard and BSEE received a report from Energy Resources Technology Gulf of Mexico LLC that an oil and natural gas production platform, owned by ERT, lost well control.

All platform personnel were safely evacuated.

All that oil and gas goes to world markets and does NOT provide US with energy independence.

Many if not most of the rigs in the gulf are internationally owned/registered. Some of this is to avoid taxes and some is just a "come one, come all" laissez faire approach to regulations.

I attended a hearing in DC after the BP disaster and learned that the Coast Guard doesn't even know how many rigs are out there.

There are literally thousands of platforms in the Gulf and every one of them leaks
into the water. Some are trickles, some are floods, some are due to age and lack
of maintenance, some are due to storm damage but they all leak.

Yet another pathetic attempt to veneer over the global pollution being caused
by the fossil fuel industry and enabled by their lazy consumers.

Sorry, but I'm not longer an O fan.

Yes, he's better than a repuke president but he sides with the corporations and Big Oil way too much.
