Huge sinkhole swallows tree in US state of Louisiana

A massive sinkhole that has been swallowing up land and trees in the US state of Louisiana is being monitored by authorities as it continues to grow.

Homes in the area are not in danger, the Assumption Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness said.

Cars have been swallowed up on busy streets in the valley, NoHO. Sorry no link but one happened recently on Ventura, or Van Nuys Blvd. Busy street.

Eroding under the street. Small, localized events (still sucks if it is your car).

The right type of earthquake could cause ground sinkage as well.


But CA is not underlain with either saltdomes, or limestone - the geology needed for big sinkholes.
