Bing says Boston mayor off base with comments he would 'blow up' Detroit

Mayor Dave Bing shot back Tuesday at criticism leveled against Detroit from Boston Mayor Thomas Menino in a recent New York Times interview.

Bing said Menino used an “unfortunate choice of words to describe what he would do if he came to Detroit” — referring to comments by Menino that he would blow up the Motor City.

“I would think the mayor of a city that recently experienced a deadly bombing attack would be more sensitive and not use the phrase ‘blow up,’” Bing said in a statement Tuesday.

Menino, who has been Boston’s mayor for 20 years, told the New York Times that if he were to take over the city, he would start over and criticized Detroit’s leaders for inaction.
