Senators strike deal on wording for new resolution authorizing force against Syria

Source: Washington Post

Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee reached an agreement late Tuesday on wording of a new resolution authorizing U.S. military force against the Syrian government.

The resolution would permit up to 60 days of military action against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and gives President Obama the option to extend military operations by 30 days pending congressional notification, according to Senate aides.

The resolution also bars the deployment of U.S. combat troops into Syria, but would permit the deployment of a small rescue mission, in the event of an emergency, the aides said.

Obama also would be required within 30 days of enactment of the resolution to send Congress a plan for a diplomatic solution to end the violence in Syria, according to a senior Senate aide familiar with the agreement.

Such as the UN.

Not the White House and US allies, honey.

The majority of Americans are considered expendible anyway so why bother throwing more money at them (and the country as a whole) is the likely thinking.

Oh wait...THAT'S right, THAT President's name was Spell-able by the GOP base.

Not that I'm unhappy about this development, I think ALL Presidents should be held to the same Standard by Congress.
My problem is, that Jr. wasent.

That's the best case scenario. A repeat of the Iraq fiasco is not necessarily the worst possible outcome, though it would be very bad.

From the text in the OP:

"Obama also would be required within 30 days of enactment of the resolution to send Congress a plan for a diplomatic solution to end the violence in Syria, according to a senior Senate aide familiar with the agreement."

I don't think Syria and it's allies/neighbors are going to be in much of a mood for "diplomatic" measures after the missiles start to fly,

and the death toll rises.

USA is already involved in the longest war in USA history in Afghanistan,

had dual wars with Iraq, threatening Iran and now Syria.

How long is the World going to put up with USA's aggression?

Not too much longer I think.

Only with UN sanctioning is this intervention in a nation's civil war NOT a crime.
