U.S. evacuates Beirut embassy over security concerns

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. officials ordered non-emergency personnel and their family members out of Lebanon on Friday "due to threats," the U.S. Embassy in Beirut said in statement.
The U.S. State Department urges "U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to Lebanon because of current safety and security concerns," the statement also said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that he had a "constructive" meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama at the G20 conference, and that they spoke of their disagreements about Syria. "He doesn't agree with me, I don't agree with him. But we listened to each other," Putin told reporters in St. Petersburg. He said they also talked about ways to solve the Syrian crisis peacefully.

The leaders at the G20 conference in Russia were split nearly "50-50" regarding whether to intervene militarily in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday. He stressed that action against Syria without U.N. Security Council approval would be illegal.
