Republican Congressman: If The House Had An Impeachment Vote It Would Pass

Source: BuzzFeed

Texas Republican Rep. Bill Flores said at a town hall forum Thursday that if the House of Representatives had an impeachment vote President Obama would be impeached. Flores said such a vote would be futile because it would fail in the Senate.

“I look at the president, I think he’s violated the Constitution,” Flores said. “I think he’s violated the law. I think he’s abused his power but at the end of the day you have to say if the House decides to impeach him, if the House had an impeachment vote it would probably impeach the president.”

The video was provided to BuzzFeed by former Obama campaign staffer Eric Aguirre, who shot the video last night.

“What’s gonna happen next,” added Flores. “It goes to the Senate and that’s step one. Step two is, the Senate’s got to have 67 votes. You’ve got 46 Republicans and 54 Democrats and independents. I’m not sure all the Republicans would vote for it and I know it’s gonna be hard to get another 21 Democrats to vote for it.”

I've got it: voting for something that's doomed to fail is a bad thing.

How many times has Flores voted to repeal Obamacare?

they would do this to any democratic president- see Clinton. They will not be happy until they get their pound of flesh (making a president resign) as a payback for Nixon.

He's counting votes like its legislation to be passed rather than a trial where the Senate is a jury. What an asswipe.

there were actual "Articles of Impeachment" drawn up with actual crimes committed.
They only reason they were not impeached, because Pelosi took impeachment off the
table and never let it come up for a vote.

On the other hand, what crimes against the constitution has Obama committed?
Everything I've heard has been Benghazi, IRS, . . .
where no evidence of White House coordination or collaboration exists.

Now if Obama had gone or goes into Syria without evidence of chemical bombs
being used, and without congress permission, maybe they might have something.
But since he's put retaliation plate in congresses corner, it's now up to them to
decide whether to go into Syria.

Just more noise from the right, playing to their base.

"I think he’s violated the Constitution,” Flores said. “I think he’s violated the law. I think he’s abused his power..."

The sad part is that most of the GOP would point to this groupthink as evidence of wrongdoing. Or as Colbert would say a "gut feeling".
The ACA was even approved of at the highest level of the conservative dominated Supreme Court. What else do the baggers have?

In fact it is the liberal Democrats and progressives of any and all stripes that could argue for impeachment the most. Based on illegal wiretapping, extraordinary rendition, assassination without trial, indefinite detention, whistleblower persecution....but that ain't gonna happen either.

when they vote no against intervention in syria.

please note that even though Im a soldier, Im undecided if the military should even try to do anything in Syria.

But the notion that ^^THIS^^ congress is somehow capable of making any sane or rational decisions is laughable.

"violated the Constitution"....please be specific and you may have more credibility

"violated the law"....please be specific and you may have more credibility

Their whole mantra goes out on well he did something so we can bring articles of impeachment against him. Unfortunately if this is their whole strategy this would never even reach the Senate. I believe the Supremes would say that at a minimum the articles would have to pass the laughter test.

within 20 years every president will be impeached unless they control congress.

This is what Nancy Pelosi was trying to put the brakes on. It's a shame the Republicans don't see it the same way.

It will turn impeachment into a joke when the Republicans just start impeaching every Democratic president.
