Hawaii Gov. Abercrombie calls for special legilative session on bill to legalize gay marriage

HONOLULU Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie on Monday called for a special legislative session to move forward on a bill that would legalize gay marriage.
If lawmakers pass a bill, Hawaii would join 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia in allowing gay marriage. The special session would begin on Oct. 28.

despite a massive anti equality campaign by the catholic church and various right wing christian sects, the session is "on"

(10,426 posts)McGarrett and Danno on the new "Hawaii Five-O" bicker like an old married couple, and there's tons of slash fiction about them already. So, I think that the show should celebrate same-sex marriage by finally having them get married!
Seriously... this has GOT to be driven by the lucrative "destination wedding" market. I mean, how many couples go to Hawaii for their honeymoon, or have destination weddings there? This is a chance to add a whole new customer base to your market.

Remember, this is the guy who knew, and was friends, with Barack Obama senior -- and he's one of the most prominent witnesses to the fact Obama was indeed born in Hawaii.

(5,756 posts)It's nice to see a governor call a special session to formalize the rights people should just have. As opposed to places like TX where the governor called the session just to restrict abortion.
If the RCC and other organizations want to be so danged involved in the political process then they really need to be taxed.
