Wave Of Bombings Kills 53 In South And Central Iraq

Source: Associated Press

By Sinan Salaheddin, The Associated Press

BAGHDAD — A series of car bombings and other attacks in Iraq killed at least 53 people in mostly Shiite-majority cities on Sunday, another bloody reminder of the government's failure to stem the surge of violence that is feeding sectarian tensions.

Iraq is experiencing its deadliest bout of violence since 2008, raising fears the country is returning to a period of widespread killing such as that which pushed it to the brink of civil war following the 2003 U.S.-led invasion. More than 4,000 people have been killed in attacks since the start of April, including 804 just in August, according to United Nations figures.

Sunday's deadliest attack was in the city of Hillah, 60 miles south of Baghdad, where a car bomb near an outdoor market killed nine civilians and wounded 15 others, a police officer said. A few minutes later, another car bomb went off nearby, killing six civilians and wounding 14, he added.

In the nearby town of Iskandariyah, 30 miles south of the capital, another car bomb hit a parking lot, killing four civilians and wounding nine, police said.

"The Pet Goat" (often erroneously called "My Pet Goat&quot is a children's story from the book Reading Mastery II: Storybook 1 by Siegfried Engelmann and Elaine C. Bruner. It gained attention in 2001 after U.S. President George W. Bush continued reading the book with an elementary school class for seven minutes after being informed of the September 11 attacks.

"The Pet Goat" is the story of a girl's pet goat that eats everything in its path. The girl's parents want to get rid of the goat, but she defends it. In the end, the goat becomes a hero when it butts a car thief into submission.

Syria would have the same future. The reason repubs are against military action is pretty much due to the fact that Obama wanted it. Or at least made them believe he wanted to drop bombs.

I think Obama has figured out how to do this "Presidenting while Black" thing.

I wish we (meaning somebody in the World) could figure out a solution for the mess in Iraq.

Those poor people, and NO, I am saying Saddam was a great guy, but did they have more reliable electricity, water, an educated populace and some sense of safety before the idiot son and his immoral cabal decided to invade Iraq?

Peace
