'Infomercial King' Kevin Trudeau Ordered to Jail
Source: ABC
Controversial TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau, who in July was found in contempt for failing to pay a $37.6 million sanction against him for deceptive marketing, was ordered to jail today and remains in federal custody in Chicago.
In August, a federal judge sided with the Federal Trade Commission in granting a court-appointed receiver broad authority to marshal assets and take over businesses the judge ruled were controlled by the infomercial king.
Appearing before U.S. District Court Judge Robert Gettleman today, Trudeau was found in contempt for violation of the asset freeze and receivership by transferring nearly $20,000 from an Australian account and for using a debit card tied to that account to buy things beyond what is ordinary and necessary living expenses.

(6,241 posts)I would go one step further in the sentencing. "You are going to have to pay the $37.6 million sanction against you. BUT WAIT, there's more. I'm going to sentence you to not 30, not 60, but 90 days for contempt of court. All this for the low, low price of ignoring judicial orders. I'm ready for the next case. Bailiff, call now."

With that face and spiel that he had I can't believe anyone trusted him.

(40,416 posts)Selling "Blah-Blah 'They Don't Want You to Know'". I think it was some money making scheme.
In the case of Trudeau, the courts should simply lock him up and throw away the key. Then confiscate all his assets -- every penny. This guy is a known serial scammer and has no regard for the courts. He should serve hard time for life.

(323 posts)Especially when someone has just been diagnosed with cancer or something and they're looking for a miracle cure that hopefully doesn't involve chemotherapy or a mastectomy. I would know because my wife was exactly in this place when she got her diagnosis 6 years back. I helped her to trust the real doctors, and she's still with us, having hit the really good news 5-year mark a while back.

(30,947 posts)This guy is a known crook and should have gone to jail a long time ago. He has bilked a lot of people out of a lot of money with his bogus books. And he has also been on infomercials touting his false claims.
