Ohio ranked second nationally for the number of jobs lost in August, the Labor Department reported Friday.
Ohio's unemployment rate ticked up to 7.3 percent in August, as the state lost 8,200 jobs. Georgia led the nation with 16,100 jobs lost and Arizona was third, losing 7,900 jobs.
While Ohio ranked second in the number of jobs lost, the state did not place in the top three for percentage of jobs lost. Ohio lost 0.2 percent of its jobs. The largest percentage declines occurred in Connecticut and Georgia, which both lost 0.4 percent of their jobs, followed by Arizona and the District of Columbia, which each lost 0.3 percent of their jobs.
Ohio's July jobless rate was 7.2 percent. A year earlier, Ohio's unemployment rate was also 7.2 percent, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The August jobless figure is Ohio's highest unemployment rate since June 2012's 7.3 percent. Ohio's lowest unemployment rate in the last 12 months: December 2012, with 6.7 percent.
