Police: Drug Overdoses Shut Down Quassy Amusement Park Concert

Source: Hartford Courant

MIDDLEBURY — An electronic dance music concert at Quassy Amusement Park was shut down late Saturday after a number of concertgoers were taken to the hospital for suspected drug overdoses, police said.

The performance, dubbed "Adventure Land," began without incident, but around 10:30 p.m. four people dropped from suspected drug overdoses almost simultaneously, according to police.

About 30 local and state police officers responded to the park. Police said a total of seven people were treated including four who are currently in the hospital. One male teenager was breathless and pulseless.

Police believe the drug "2CP," a powerful hallucinogenic, is to blame. The drug overheats the body and takes effect three to five hours after using it, police said.

No fatalities, fortunately, but man...the stuff must have been strong to knock out 4 kids simultaneously!

They screwed over 100,000 people in New York a couple of weeks ago over a handful of overdoses.

And it looks like the same thing here. If the seven people had drunk too much, would they have shut the place down?

This happens nightly at Phish concerts and for 30 years while the Grateful Dead were on tour. I don't remember a single show or festival being shut down as a result.

Best of luck to these kids. Overdoses are never safe and emotionally very traumatic.

That's the problem with the synthetic designer drugs; they're too much of a gamble to mess with...

Alcohol, marijuana and lsd always did the trick.
