Officials Detail Premium Costs of Health Plan
Source: NY Times
WASHINGTON The Obama administration on Tuesday provided the first detailed look at premiums to be charged to consumers for health insurance in 36 states where the federal government will run new insurance markets starting next week, highlighting costs it said were generally lower than previous estimates.
Administration officials released the information, central to their campaign to persuade millions of uninsured Americans to sign up for coverage, even as Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, waged a fierce fight on the Senate floor, risking a government shutdown if necessary to eliminate financing for the expansion of coverage under President Obamas health care law.
The White House sought to focus attention on what it portrayed as the financial advantages of the health insurance program, which is set to start accepting customers on Oct. 1.
I can tell you right now that in many states across the country, if youre, say, a 27-year-old young woman, dont have health insurance, you get on that exchange, youre going to be able to purchase high-quality health insurance for less than the cost of your cellphone bill, Mr. Obama said Tuesday, speaking at a health care forum in New York City with former President Bill Clinton.

(17,390 posts)...Only to see Ted Cruz suddenly running the Republican party, fresh talk of using a default threat as leverage, and the media once again pushing a false equivalency between Republicans and Democrats by asking why Democrats are refusing to compromise in return for raising the debt limit? Its a mad, mad world when the corporate media can happily ignore Bernie Sanders engaging in a one man filibuster in defense of progressive ideals, but swoons over Ted Cruz pushing the Government to the edge of a shutdown and a default.

(270 posts)And just WWWWWWWWWWhhhhhhhhhoooooooooo is against it?
Well the bankers for one.
And, oh, Don't forget the REPUBLICANS.
Cruz said "lawmakers should listen to their constituents".
Obviously he has trouble following his own advice.
He voted AGAINST Limiting Interest Rates On Certain Federal Student Loans.
He voted AGAINST the Student Loan Affordability Act.
He voted AGAINST the Marketplace Fairness Act.
He voted AGAINST Disaster Relief Appropriations Act.
HE VOTED AGAINST REGULATING ASSAULT WEAPONS!
Cruz doesn't give a flying fuck about the interests or wishes of the American constituency.
This man is going to do more damage to our country than a terrorist ever could!
