Reid: Senate closer to deal on shutdown, debt ceiling
Source: CNN
Negotiations heated up Monday on a Senate compromise to end the partial government shutdown and avoid a possible U.S. default, with congressional leaders heading to the White House after talks cited as progress toward a deal.
"We're getting closer," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters after meeting with his Republican counterpart, Mitch McConnell.
Reid added nothing was finalized, and that he hoped to have some kind of draft to take to a 3 p.m. ET meeting with President Barack Obama.

But I fear you may be right.

(14,400 posts)but if the Senate can really come up with something that is bipartisan he probably won't have much of a choice.
I think that orange piece of shit has been flailing around for a life vest since early last week at least. He'll be happy to take it and say that the Senate caved on him.
so far he has been able to take advantage of the media obsession with false equivalency and escaped notice of the fact that the clean CR would have easily passed the House had he allowed a vote. But if the Senate very publicly passes a compromise bill, he can't do that anymore.

I agree, a compromise where "we the people" are given what we deserve. Fuck the elites.

(879 posts)won't really have a choice if the Senate comes out with a bipartisan deal. Most people are too stupid to realize that if Boehner simply called a vote, the clean CR would have passed.
But when something comes out of the Senate with 80-something votes, which a compromise legislation would, he won't have a choice but to bring it up and it will pass. It will be untenable for him to not call a vote on something that passed the Senate.
The Senate was always the way through, because they run statewide. And despite Ted Cruz being a raging moron, in general, you get more rationality out of the Senate.

(5,610 posts)is arrest these terrorists and use executive powers to punish them and return Democracy back to America.
Gerrymandered districts are NOT Democracy.
Money IS NOT speech. Corporations are NOT people.
It is time for a real leader to tell the terrorists that Gitmo is ready.
"We" fought idiotic wars to "protect democracy ", so "that we wouldn't have to fight the terrorists at home."
What in the hell do you think is happening now? The real terrorists are winning, right in our own yards.
Dammit, just appoint Bernie Sanders as the new "anti-"American terrorist" czar." Give him complete power to end this terror.
We will have enforced regulations that prevent the elite take-over of America again.
Of course, we have to remove money from politics so that "our" representatives and presidents do not remove those pesky regulations down the road. If Holder would have done his job, we sure as hell would not be held hostage right now by these terrorists.
NO more compromises. How in the hell can we be "closer to a deal" when Obama has already (sold the farm) said that we will not be held hostage by these Robber Barons. He said "NO MORE DEALS."
This b.s. has made me understand how violent civil wars begin. Especially when the aristocrats goal is to completely ruin everyone else.
