AC Transit: Jerry Brown orders 60-day cooling period

(10-22) 17:26 PDT Oakland -- East Bay commuters got a reprieve from another potential transit strike Tuesday when Gov. Brown ordered a 60-day cooling-off period between AC Transit and its unions.
The move Tuesday came less than two days before 1,600 drivers and mechanics were slated to walk off their jobs in protest over rising health care costs, wages and other issues. The strike would have affected about 181,000 riders in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
"Another strike in the Bay Area is the last thing we need," said Brown. "I urge the parties to resolve their differences, keeping the bus-riding public in mind."
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo will consider the governor's request Wednesday morning.
