Source: Arizona Republic

Five people are dead in a shooting reported near 17th Avenue and Camelback Road on Saturday morning, polcie said.

Phoenix police spokesman Tommy Thompson confirmed Saturday afteroon that four people and one shooter died after gunfire was reported at a townhouse complex near 17th Avenue and Hazelwood Drive around 9 a.m.

Two dogs were also shot and killed, police said.

It’s unclear what started the shooting, but neighbors told The Arizona Republic that the suspected shooter was seen firing gunshots over a fence at the two dogs that were killed.

folks, so just move along. This is all covered under the Second Amendment, and is just a small price to pay for Freedom. We need more guns for more people -- that's the American way!

Their dog would always bark and I tried everything to make it stop including talking to the owners. If I had a gun at that time I probaly would have used it.

Ban handguns then arrest people in possession of them.

Look at England or Japan.

I'm not against gun control because of "mah rahts", I just haven't seen many suggestions that wouldn't make things worse, and outright prohibition definitely would make things worse IMO, because nothing and I mean nothing is going to get rid of the 300 million or so guns that are out there right now. And everything we do shakes up the nuts so much that they go and double their arsenal sizes, which makes things worse.

Concentrate on the operators. Do a Federal license system, though that's a stretch. Shut down the Ring of Fire 2.0 gunmakers. Pass an Interstate trafficking law with real teeth, to include straw purchases. Registration would be awesome, but so would universal single payer; one step at a time.

EDIT: that said, I like the focus on handguns, because that is what's actually killing people.

44. Maybe a more realistic solution:

Require commercial firearm manufacturers to install a microchip and palm recognition in every weapon. Perhaps prohibition isn't the answer, but regulation of manufacture and sales certainly could be. The US military has smart bullets. I think we can make smart guns, too.

As you say. Then we improve it so it's harder to hack and keep going round and round, each time improving the technology. At least we would be doing something, and it doesn't affect the right to possess a weapon since it's directed at regulating manufacture and commerce... exactly what Congress is (supposed to be) for.

they won't stay long. At this time the human race is waaaayyyy past the point of gleaning any enlightenment from an advanced culture. Hell, the 2nd amendment boys would try to kill them anyway. I can see the aliens flying away shaking their heads saying, :"wtf: was that!" Sick and tired of being sick and tired of these idiots with lethal weapons. It really is a sad state of affairs. "Zimmerman doctrine" coins gundamentalists mentality perfectly. We're not evolving folks.
