Sen. Heller’s support for ENDA kills GOP hopes for filibustering LGBT rights bill

Source: Raw Story

On Monday, Democrats found their 60th vote when Heller announced that he would also be backing the bill.

“After listening to Nevadans’ concerns about this issue from a variety of viewpoints and after numerous conversations with my colleagues, I feel that supporting this legislation is the right thing to do,” Heller said in a statement. “Under the leadership of this Governor, as well as the legislature over the past several years, Nevada has established a solid foundation of anti-discrimination laws.”

“This legislation raises the federal standards to match what we have come to expect in Nevada, which is that discrimination must not be tolerated under any circumstance,” he added.

Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) has also suggested that he may back ENDA so there could be a few Republicans joining the Democrats by the time the vote is taken on Monday.

The only way anything decent--anything--passes the House is by removing the Republicans from power in 2014.

My only concern is when the Repugs eventually get in charge and what laws come out of their "get to 60".

If the Repubs re-take the Senate (perish the thought) it is doubtful that the Dems would use the same kind of obstruction that the Repubs keep using. Filibustering everything is unthinkable to the Dems. They are just too reasonable to do that, which is a fucking goddamn shame.

Therefore, unfortunately, it will pass the Senate and simply die.

I hope we are able to use this against the GOPers in the next couple of election cycles.

They should allow an up or down vote and then if it fails, it fails. The tactic of just sitting on something is just lame. Ds would only need 20 or so Rs to cross the isle (assuming a few Ds voted no). I think that's exactly why Boner won't let it up for a vote.

the SCOTUS rules it is unconstitutional to prevent two persons of the same gender to marry but there is no protection for the same couple against job, housing, etc. discrimination?

We are a nation of nitwits.

Let's here Boner explain that.
