Mullah Fazlullah: Man who ordered Malala Yousafzai attack is new head of Pakistan Taliban

Source: The Independent

The Pakistan Taliban has selected as its new leader a notorious militant who ordered the attack on schoolgirl activist Malala Yousafzai.

Six days days after their previous leader was killed in a CIA drone strike in North Waziristan, the Pakistan Taliban announced that Mullah Fazlullah had been elected the new chief by a meeting on Thursday.

The new commander is the man who led the Taliban’s iron-fisted domination of Pakistan’s Swat Valley between 2007-2009, where girls’ schools were closed and destroyed and suspected informants flogged and hanged in the street.

The former tourist haven was eventually recaptured following a lengthy operation by the army. Fazlullah was forced across the border into Afghanistan where he has set up base and conducted repeated attacks.

The government had been trying to set up peace talks, but the new leader has already rejected the initiative.

The BBC's Richard Galpin in Islamabad says the Taliban have indicated that Mullah Fazlullah wants revenge for the killing of Mehsud.

A Taliban spokesman told the BBC the militants would target the military and the governing party.

Ah, the wonders of US assassination. They kill someone, his successor says he'll take revenge on Pakistan.

Hakimullah Mehsud: Imran Khan seeks Nato blockade over killing

Pakistani politician Imran Khan is threatening to blockade supply lines to Nato forces in Afghanistan if the US does not end drone strikes this month.

Mr Khan accused the US of sabotaging peace efforts with the Pakistani Taliban by killing its leader Hakimullah Mehsud last Friday.

"I mean are they a friend or an enemy?" the former cricketer asked the BBC.

He says he will organise protests on routes to and from Afghanistan if drone attacks do not end by 20 November.

And we see that the killing has indeed killed the peace efforts too.

has anything to say about this choice, after his crocodile tears over Malala. (he refused to criticize the Taliban for shooting her)

My guess is that Khan gave him a private congratulatory call but suggested his guys work on their marksmanship.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/10/12/malala-s-fight-for-a-modern-pakistan.html

Although he expressed regret over Malala not getting the Nobel, members of Khan’s party recently spearheaded a campaign on Twitter to describe Malala’s recent activism in support of girls’ education and liberal values as an American-funded drama.

might be forthcoming and Nawaz Sharif (the PM of Pakistan) may actually support it privately.

Imran Khan has gone off the deep end lately and is taking Pakistan backwards instead of forwards.

Pakistan needs pragmatic leaders that denounce extremism and promote education and business - not people who pall around with terrorists.

I just stated that it might happen and that the current PM of Pakistan might support it.

By the way, I have a lot of respect for the current PM of Pakistan who is taking Pakistan to a new horizon of peace and prosperity.
