Gallup: 76% Of Americans Support A Minimum Wage Increase

Source: TPM

CAITLIN MACNEAL – NOVEMBER 11, 2013, 4:40 PM EST

More than three quarters of Americans support an increase in the minimum wage, according to a Gallup Poll released Monday.

Seventy-six percent said the minimum wage should be raised to $9 per hour, a five point jump from March. A law that would raise the minimum wage and tie future minimum wage increases to inflation got slightly less support at 69 percent.

Fifty-six percent of Republicans said they oppose linking the minimum wage to inflation, while only eight percent of Democrats opposed that type of measure.

Voters in New Jersey approved a measure Tuesday that raises the minimum wage in the state to $8.25 and ties further increases to inflation.

This is not the only poll to report overwhelming American support for increasing the minimum wage.
Just a couple of days ago we reported on another, from July in
Support grows for minimum wage increase.
That poll was done by Hart Research Associates and found that:

“By a ratio of four to one, Americans support raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour and adjusting it for the cost of living in future years,”
“Eight in ten adults (80 percent) approve of this minimum wage proposal, [raising it to $10.10 per hour] including 46 percent who strongly approve, and just 20 percent disapprove.”

It is way past time for Congress to act on this issue.

In any event. It is important that people be paid a livable wage. It's better than forcing the fully employed on public assistance.

scenario, minimum wage is technically less than slavery as it is not sufficient to secure the basics to exist. They get away with it because the difference is picked up by the taxpayer. WalMart, case in point.

On edit: Meanwhile, the Dow reaches another high.

cutting hours to less than 30/week so they don't have to pay any benefits, the minimum should be $10 for those that work more than 30 and $15 minimum for part time.
