Colorado College job application includes 'queer' gender option

Source: NY Daily News

The word "queer" is cool, according to Colorado College.

The small liberal arts school with an enrollment of 2,000 is under fire for putting what many people believe is a slur on its job applications.

"Queer" is one of five choices in the gender section of the application, along with "male," "female," "transgender" and "not disclosed."

"It would be like if they put down for race: 'white,' 'Latino,' 'black' and then the 'N' word,'" Pennsylvania writer John Kichi told ABCNews.com. "Every one of my gay friends is appalled by this. This is something I had never seen before."

who graduated from Colorado College and has always been proud of it wrote: "I'm all for CC being open to diversity--but this is not the way to do it! Regardless of today's youth "reclaiming" the term and being comfortable with it, it's completely inappropriate to ask people to use it on an official document like a job application. What are they thinking?"
