Idaho lawmaker still allowed to carry concealed weapon despite lying about pleading guilty to rape

Source: Raw Story

An Idaho lawmaker who had his concealed weapon permit revoked for lying about a long-ago guilty plea to rape can still legally carry a gun because his state exempts elected officials from the permit law.

State Rep. Mark Patterson (R-Boise) had his permit revoked after the Ada County sheriff discovered the lawmaker had lied twice, in 2007 and 2012, on his permit application by failing to disclose a 1974 guilty plea for assault with intent to commit rape in Florida.

Patterson said the plea deal, which resulted in withheld judgment, was the result of a “bizarre encounter” with a 46-year-old woman he claims “fabricated the incident because she was angry that I would not give her money.”

The woman told police that Patterson, then 21, forced her to have sex twice by threatening to have his doberman pinscher attack her.

Guess that populist bagger rage about government guys being treated better than garden variety rapists fizzled out somewhere down the road. Love to see his voting record on women's rights. Well, not quite. I'm sure it's a very short and bad list.

The Second Amendment is absolute with no mention about restrictions or regulation whatsoever.

. . when he first campaigned for office in the state legislature.

He claimed that he attended the University of Southern California, and he also claimed that he was a petroleum engineer on his website when he ran for state office last fall -- both statements are outright lies.

There's a huge, front page article in Sunday's newspaper about Patterson in the Idaho Statesman.
Patterson said he was "just 21 years old" when that happened, and he also said "the cops lied" when he was arrested and charged with rape.

However, Patterson was arrested, charged, and tried for a 2nd rape in Ohio just 3 years later in July 1977.
The judge acquitted him in September of that year after a brief trial in that case.
The Statesman newspaper says that Patterson was charged with rape in that case "by means of forcibly choking and threatening" the life of a woman in Cincinnati.

The Rethuglican party knows that the Democrats will easily beat Patterson in the general election next year when all of this news about him gets out.
So, they are already preparing a moderate Rethuglican to run against him in the primary next spring in May in an attempt to keep that seat in the House.

Patterson refuses to talk about his past.
He has stated that he only has very little memory of what happened in the past, after undergoing 6 months of chemotherapy to treat a Hepatitis C virus in 2003.

6. If he was innocent then why did he plead guilty?

I can't imagine he was under any extreme duress, in that particular case - he is a white Republican after all.
