New Orleans Bridge Shooting: Man, Baby Fatally Shot In Apparent Ambush

Source: AP

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A man and a 7-month-old boy have been fatally shot in an apparent ambush on a New Orleans bridge.

Police spokesman Frank B. Robertson III told The Associated Press that someone opened fire on the 25-year-old man Wednesday night as he rode in the back seat of a black Honda Accord on the Crescent City Connection bridge.

Robertson says the boy was in a car seat beside the man. He says a woman who was driving and another woman who was a front-seat passenger were not hurt.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Gosh, it seems like this *more guns for everyone* deal isn't working out so well AndyA Nov 2013 #2

IIRC, fewer people nowadays own guns, but they own more guns on average. nomorenomore08 Nov 2013 #4
I was thinking active military or guard service for gun ownership AndyA Nov 2013 #6

Apparently know one is safe in this country anymore, what exactly is it going to take to stop this insanity. Why can a small handful people gun nuts control what the rest of America wants and needs.

Perhaps it's time to try something else? Like fewer guns for everyone? Or mandatory military or guard service to have a gun? Background checks for everyone, regardless?

All the returning Vets joining local Police and Sheriff Depts have led to a lot of unarmed citizens being shot for no appearent reason

To be brutally honest, I wouldn't tend to trust a vet with a gun any more than a non-vet with a gun. Think of PTSD if nothing else.

Honestly, I think social pressure - like recognizing stockpiling of guns and ammo for the unreasonable paranoia that it is - might go a long way toward discouraging the gun nuts' craziness. Not discouraging gun ownership in general, necessarily, but encouraging more reasonable gun ownership.
