Woman arrested after bomb found at Washington state hospital

SEATTLE (Reuters) - A 43-year-old Washington state woman was arrested after a bomb was found in a vehicle parked in front of a hospital roughly 30 miles outside of Seattle, the Bremerton Police Department said on Thursday.
Police said in a statement that officers were sent to the Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton at roughly 7:30 a.m. local time and found an "object that looked like an improvised explosive device" in a vehicle parked in front of the emergency room entrance. The Washington State Patrol bomb squad removed the device.
Police arrested the woman, who was to be held at a local jail on $100,000 bail, police said.
The bomb squad was sent to search the woman's home in nearby Poulsbo, a city of roughly 9,000 people and police there evacuated an unknown number of neighboring residences.

(37,449 posts)Fisher said the makeshift explosive consisted of a seal bomb wrapped with six CO2 cylinders. Seal bombs resemble large firecrackers and are typically used to scare seals away from fish pens. Fisher said the device was deemed an illegal anti-personnel explosive because the CO2 cylinders could create shrapnel upon detonation.
While interviewing the woman, police determined there were possibly more devices at her Poulsbo residence. Poulsbo police responded to a mobile home park on the 1800 block of Lincoln Road. Poulsbo Deputy Chief Bob Wright said there was no one inside the womans home when police arrived. Several neighboring homes were evacuated.
A State Patrol bomb squad and explosive-sniffing dogs swept the property. Wright said a device was recovered from inside the home similar to the one found at Harrison.

The state is typically thought of as politically divided by the Cascade Mountains, with Western Washington being liberal (particularly the I-5 Corridor) and Eastern Washington being conservative. Washington has voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in every election since 1988.
Due to Western Washington's large population, Democrats usually fare better statewide. The Seattle metropolitan combined statistical area, home to almost two-thirds of Washington's population, generally delivers stronger Democratic margins than most other parts of Western Washington. This is especially true of King County, home to Seattle itself and almost a third of the state's population.

(3,888 posts)cities and towns, you will find ill-educated country bumpkins. Bremerton is a navy town with a transient population but locals are on the peninsula to hide from urban life. Paulsbo is a bit more artsy but the true locals are there because it is not Seattle.

(1,867 posts)Is Bremerton, my wife's is Poulsbo. Its typically OK, lots of tweakers and derelict wannabe "gang bangers". That would be why we moved. The police there are pretty awful as well.
Glad nobody got hurt.
