Source: NBC Chicago
Dozens of Midwestern communities are digging out of the rubble left by a series of tornadoes that battered the region Sunday.
Severe weather and tornadoes ravaged through much of central Illinois Sunday. According to the National Weather Service, at least 10 tornadoes touched down in Illinois.
The Illinois emergency Management Agency reported one fatality in the storms.
At least seven trauma cases were reported at St. Francis Medical Center near Washington, Ill., where a tornado devastated the area. . .

Tornadoes in November in the Midwest? Climate change? Nah, can't be - that eminent scientist Rush Limbaugh says no way.
Me? I'm worried.

(3,509 posts)I live in Peoria Heights and they had rain, hail, high winds, and 3 tornadoes near me, one in Pekin Illinois, one in Washington Illinois, and one in East Peoria.
Lots of damage with houses leveled, but near me just some tree branches down and the house behind me had a wood fence blown down.
It's a miracle, but I never even lost power, which almost always happens in these kind of storms.
It is very rare for this area to have a tornado, and they almost never happen this time of year, it's something you might get in the spring, but never in November.

(29,876 posts)true, we are going to get a routine bout of summer-type storms. Areas north of us look to get hit a bit harder.
Godspeed to all within the paths of these storms.

(14,061 posts)I'm in central Indiana and we had large tornadoes just to the west and north of us. We were under a tornado warning, and right after it was issued the weather cleared up. Black as night to the north and east, but clear as a bell where we are. Sun and blue sky. It got kind of dark about a half-hour later, but again we got nothing. All in all this afternoon, we got maybe a few minutes of rain, and some wind, and that was it. The storms overnight were much worse in terms of lightning, rain, and wind.
I was fully prepared for the worst, especially with the storm directly west of us. There's a lot of damage in areas all around us -- especially in Kokomo -- we really lucked out.
I think in coming years fall will become the prime season for severe weather, rather than spring. We can almost count on at least a couple of days of really bad weather in November, while the springs have been relatively calm. I don't think it's a coincidence as the planet continues to warm.

(12,296 posts)... I'm used to fronts coming thru that can spur a twister or several but this front had broken up little isolated cells that were spinning twisters out from the NE end of Indiana to the SW corner. The local weather folks didn't know which warnings to talk about first, they were popping up all over the place, randomly.
I don't recall a day like this.

(12,882 posts)Congress hasn't a CLUE about climate change..... but they DID vote to repeal Obamacare some 43 times. So all you who have suffered physical and mental distress because of a tornado surge in mid-November? Take heart and try to be the first one in the door at yoiur local Emergency Rooms.
