Loretta Lynn receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

Source: WYMT

She is known as the coal miner's daughter, and Wednesday Eastern Kentucky's own Loretta Lynn received a national honor of recognition from the president.

Lynn joined several others including a former United States president to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

You would be hard pressed to find a person in Eastern Kentucky who doesn't know who that coal miner's daughter is.

"I've lived here pretty much all my life. I've always loved Loretta. She's a good, good lady, real nice lady," said Mack Lowe, a family friend and clerk at Webb's Grocery, owned by Lynn's brother Herman.

I was raised in King Holler (Harlan county).

Congratulations to all of the honorees.

After the ceremony they showed the wreath-laying at JFK's grave by the Obamas and the Clintons. Jack Schlossberg, his grandson, looked like he was close to tears.

I kick your OP for this spunky little talented lady. They just don't make country music like they used to, do they?

I think half the redneck heads exploded - they love hometown girl Loretta, but despise Obama. They didn't know what to think.
