FEC: Tea Party May Not Shield Donors
Source: NPR
The Federal Election Commission has rejected a bid by conservatives to weaken the campaign-finance disclosure law. A Tea Party group had asked for a precedent-changing decision to keep its donor lists secret. It said members are being targeted for harassment and intimidation.

(12,977 posts)His name is Dan Backer, and I keep posting about him here because he's such a threat. He already won one case (Carey v. FEC) that makes it possible to create so-called "hybrid PACs." Now he's got another case awaiting a Supreme Court decision, McCutcheon v. FEC, that would overturn all limits on individuals donors.
Backer is also a scammer whose business model is to set up fraudulent non-profits that solicit donations from gullible Tea Partiers and then spend most of the money paying him and his cronies as consultants. His latest group, the one whose request to be treated as small and persecuted the FEC turned down, is behind the supposed attempt to primary all the GOP Congress members who voted to raise the debt ceiling -- but although he's brought in $1 million or so, very little of that is ever going to find it's way into actual primary campaigns.

(9,461 posts)groups basically him and another guy at the helm. He owns the marketing company and the other guy owns a company that does polling or something? Between the two companies they account for like 90% of all expenses? It really is like a free for all with this scotus. We have to stop the money in campaigns and get a new scotus judge or two.
